The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) recently launched a new online transfer system that allows employed teachers to request transfers entirely through the digital platform.
In a circular to regional, county, and sub-county directors, Acting TSC Chief Executive Officer Evaleen Mitei announced that the “Teacher Transfer Module” is now live, saying it will enhance fairness in teacher distribution and streamline deployment across schools.
Mitei explained that the move is part of TSC’s broader digitisation agenda under its 2023–2027 Strategic Plan.
“To advance automation and digitisation of services, in line with our institutional transformation goals, the Commission has rolled out the Teacher Transfer Module to streamline this critical process,” she said.
The system introduces several new features, including automated matching and swap options, subject-based and school-level considerations, structured timelines, real-time notifications, and a requirement for teachers to complete a minimum service period before seeking transfers.
Teachers can now apply for transfers, accept available slots, or engage in mutual swaps virtually.

Once both parties in a swap agree, the system automatically locks the exchange, eliminating duplication and delays.
To minimize classroom disruption, the transfers will be scheduled during school holidays.
The platform also integrates escalation mechanisms for delayed cases and links with existing TSC records for smooth processing.
For the first time teachers can request swaps even before completing five years in the profession . However, if no match is found within 90 days, the system will automatically extend the search window by another 90 days. After 180 days without a suitable replacement, the request will be formally declined.
Under the new framework, teachers need to log into the TSC portal to submit transfer requests remotely, eliminating paperwork and in-person visits to offices.
How TSC Online Transfer Portal Works
To initiate a transfer, a teacher logs into the TSC website using their TSC number, ID, and mobile phone. A secure code is sent to the phone for authentication.
Once logged in, the system automatically detects whether the teacher serves in a primary or secondary school.
The teacher then enters details such as their current posting, preferred transfer location, and the reason for the request.
There is a provision for the teacher to upload Supporting documents, like medical reports into the system.
Each application can be tracked in real time, showing statuses such as “Pending,” “Approved,” or “Not Approved” depending on vacancy availability and suitability of replacements.
When a transfer is approved, the teacher receives reporting instructions, and the move is scheduled during the school holiday period to avoid disrupting learning.
