The National Police Service (NPS) has announced a new date for the nationwide recruitment of police constables, following the lifting of court orders that had previously halted the exercise.
In a ruling delivered on Thursday, October 30, Lady Justice Hellen Wasilwa, declared that the National Police Service Commission (NPSC) is not a national security organ as defined under Article 239(1) of the Constitution and therefore lacks the authority to conduct police recruitment as previously advertised.
The judge further clarified that the commission has no constitutional powers to assign, promote, suspend, or dismiss members of the Police Service.
Justice Wasilwa emphasized that such powers are reserved exclusively for national security organs, as outlined in the Constitution.
Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja confirmed that the recruitment will be conducted on November 17, 2025, in all sub-counties across the country.
According to the NPS, all applicants must meet several key requirements.
Candidates must be Kenyan citizens aged between 18 and 28 years, possess a valid national ID, and have attained a minimum grade of D+ in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE), including at least a D+ in either English or Kiswahili.
Applicants must also be physically and medically fit, with male candidates required to have a minimum height of 5 feet 8 inches and female candidates 5 feet 3 inches.
Besides, female applicants should not be pregnant during recruitment or training.

The service emphasized that individuals with criminal records or pending court cases will not be considered, while National Youth Service (NYS) graduates who meet the minimum qualifications are strongly encouraged to apply.
NPS further stressed that the recruitment process will be entirely free of charge, warning that anyone found soliciting or offering bribes to influence the exercise will face immediate legal action.
How to Apply
Prospective candidates are advised to download and complete official application forms from the websites of the National Police Service (NPS), Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), or the Administration Police Service (AP).
The forms will also be available at all Huduma Centres nationwide.
On the day of recruitment, applicants must report to their respective designated centres by 8:00 a.m., carrying both original and photocopies of their academic certificates, national ID cards, birth certificates, and, where applicable, NYS discharge certificates bearing at least a ‘Good’ conduct rating.
