Detectives in Kakamega County are investigating the mysterious death of Simon Isiaho Shange, the principal of Munyuki Secondary School, whose body was discovered floating in the Kipkaren River days after he went missing in Lugari.
Shange went missing in the early hours of Monday, November 3, shortly after being involved in a mysterious accident at the notorious Muge black spot while on his way to collect KCSE examination papers.
The early Saturday discovery sparked chaos in Lumakanda, as enraged residents and students stormed the local police station, accusing authorities of inaction.
The mob reportedly shattered window panes and vandalized several vehicles before being dispersed by officers.

Shange’s body was recovered and taken to the mortuary for an autopsy.
Investigators have yet to determine the cause of death, saying they are exploring both drowning and foul play.
The case has stirred tension in the community, with speculation intensifying since November 3, when Shange was reportedly involved in a road accident along the Eldoret–Malaba Highway before his disappearance.
Western Regional Police Commander Issa Mohamud said a team of homicide experts has been assigned to the case, assuring residents that justice will be served. “We are pursuing all leads to uncover the truth,” he said.
In a separate incident in Kandutura, Nyandarua County, police arrested a man accused of killing his 73-year-old brother following a domestic dispute.
The victim’s body bore head and leg injuries, with foam reportedly oozing from his mouth. Detectives have launched a probe into the murder.
In Nandi Hills, one man died and two others were hospitalized after allegedly consuming a suspected poisonous brew at a local wines and spirits joint in Chemomi.
The deceased, identified as Dancun Kipkemboi, 31, died instantly, while the survivors remain in stable condition. Authorities collected samples of the drink for toxicology tests as investigations continue.
The bodies in both incidents were moved to local mortuaries pending postmortem examinations.
