The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) salary and allowances for teachers are structured using job groups from B5 through D5, aligned with T-Scales (5 to 15).
TSC oversees the recruitment, deployment, and overall management of teachers in public schools within the country.
On 18 July 2025 TSC signed the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) for 2025–2029 which will be implemented in four phases from 1 July 2025 to 30 June 2029.

Basic salary for Teachers
According to recent official estimates, the basic monthly salary ranges for key job groups are:
- B5 (Primary Teacher II): about KES 28,620 – 37,100
- C1 (Primary Teacher I / Secondary Teacher III): about KES 35,300 – 47,300
- C2 (Secondary Teacher II / Senior Teacher II): about KES 41,400 – 57,200
- C3 (Senior Teacher I / Secondary Teacher I): about KES 49,800 – 66,200
- C4 (Deputy Headteacher II / Senior Master IV): about KES 58,600 – 77,100
- C5 (Headteacher / Deputy Headteacher I): about KES 69,700 – 96,100
- D4 (Senior Principal): about KES 121,800 – 150,700

TSC Teachers Allowances
The TSC Allowances include;
1.House allowance, varying by location cluster (Cluster 1: Nairobi; Cluster 2: major municipalities; Cluster 3: other areas).
2.Commuter allowance: for example B5 may get about KES 4,000, rising to KES 16,000 for D5.
3.Hardship allowance (for service in hardship-areas): ranges from about KES 6,600 (B5) to KES 38,100 (D5).
4.Leave allowance: once per year, e.g., KES 4,000 for B5/C1, KES 10,000 for D grades.
5.Disability guide allowance: a flat KES 20,000 per month for eligible teachers with disabilities.
